T20 World Cup 2012 Venues
Venues of T20 World Cup 2012 are placed here. Sri Lanka is a small country with limited resources, but treats its cricket seriously and energetically. Three venues have been short-listed to hold cricket matches when T20 World Cup 2012 starts in September.
Sri Lanka has played gracious hosts, letting Group A and B to utilize the best facilities and pitches. Thus, Australia, West Indies, Ireland, England, India and Afghanistan will play their group matches on R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo (National Capital). The pitches here play host to huge scores and these teams will savor the batting conditions.
Group C will have matches between Sri Lanka, South Africa and Zimbabwe at Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium, Hambantota. The pitches here created controversies in last year’s 50-over World Cup, owing to awkward bounce and false pace. The ground may see matches with below-par scores.
The last Group comprising of New Zealand, Pakistan and Bangladesh will have all its matches staged on Pallekele Cricket Stadium, Kandy. Pitches here generally offer level-bounce and teams should conjure good aggregates.
The Super 8 matches will divide its venue between Kandy and Colombo. However, the spectacular R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo will be the center of attraction from semifinals onwards. The only other international venue in Galle has been reserved for Women’s T20 World Cup that will run simultaneously.
